Οverprotection and juvenile crime.

As we constantly hear that people cannot be trusted, some believe that giving a teenager responsibility and freedom can be harmful. But this isn’t really true as it is based on the fear of individual emancipation. Regarded from a dispassionate point of view, teenagers should be guided and advised to take their own decisions as early as possible.
It is more than apparent that children who have no guidance run the risk of becoming criminals. If youngsters are not given any direction in their lives they very often get confused, with psychological problems and maybe they present a criminal behavior. Thus teaching the use of good judgment should be a top priority in parental responsibilities.
However, it is undeniable that overprotection may trigger similar negative effects. Too much restriction can bring about opposite results, as too much freedom may prove dangerous.
On the other hand, we must not forget that juvenile crime is not an unambiguous effect. As an option of human behavior, it is a multi-factored act and, according to scientists, it is strongly relevant to the violence in the media.
Thus, it is my opinion that parents need to be supportive and loving rather than domineering. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to place emphasis on social ties, as we are not simple victims of circumstance.
