It is beyond a doubt that the media plays a central role in contemporary society, keeping us abreast of current events. As a result, the reporters have the right to write whatever they consider interesting for their readers.
On the one hand, there is the priority of the reader. If a society respects its citizens, it ought to offer them a great variation of choices related to their preferences. Since the people want to know certain facts about their idols, the media must keep them awared. We must not forget that a celebrity is often a role model for society and maybe some people need to learn details of their life, not only to satisfy their curiosity but also copy and imitate their own lives!
On the other hand, the stars more and more often sue the press for invasion of privacy being supported by those who believe that the freedom of press results always in the sensationalizing of the news. Of course the media cannot write whatever they want and some limits must certainly be placed. But to my mind, it is on a celebrity’s own responsibility to place these limits by having well hidden their personal details so as not to be published, as well as by cooperating with the media in order all the sides to be satisfied. Everybody knows that the world of star-system is a tough one and it needs a lot of effort to be well regulated.
Finally, what is the role of the journalists if not to report the news? The truth is sometimes hard but the organization of human societies is based on the discovery and utilization of this truth. In addition, different aspects of the truth are every day appeared in the way to give us new data to reorientate our aims, our needs, our lives. And the media just respond to our demands.
Thus, private life is without doubt of huge importance, but so is the freedom of press too. The needs of people to know the truth about their models must be respected and everyone has to realize their role well, without failing to defend their private limits.
